As our operational needs evolve and our supplier ecosystem expands, we are seeking a highly skilled Procurement Category Lead to take ownership of strategic spend categories and drive long-term value across the organization. This role combines strategic procurement leadership with strong analytical capability, supplier governance and cross-functional alignment.

 

Role Overview:

The Procurement Category Lead owns and manages specific spend categories, ensuring optimal supplier strategy, cost efficiency, contract performance, and compliance. The role goes beyond transactional procurement, focusing on long-term category planning, supply-market intelligence, supplier relationship management, contract negotiation, and risk mitigation.

Our client is a leading ship repair yard located in Marseille, situated in the heart of one of the largest Mediterranean ports. The yard is equipped with modern facilities and undertakes significant technical projects for international shipowners. In light of its development and increasing activity, it is expanding its purchasing team.

As part of the purchasing department, you will be responsible for a subcontracting portfolio (technical specialties and industrial capabilities) that directly aligns with the operational needs of the ship repair projects.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the supplier panel across various subcontracting specialties
  • Defining and implementing the purchasing strategy within your scope
  • Ensuring the purchasing process runs smoothly from identifying needs to executing services
  • Participating in project cost estimation, initiating consultations, analyzing bids, negotiating, and finalizing contracts
  • Maintaining communication with technical teams, production, and external service providers
  • Contributing to the evaluation and auditing of service providers with a focus on continuous improvement
