Green Maritime

🌿 EU Maritime Green Transition

The fleet is changing.
The crew needs
to change with it.

FuelEU Maritime, EU ETS, CII ratings — new regulations mean new roles. We match companies with the specialists who understand the green transition.

Regulatory Context

Why this matters right now

The EU has moved from ambition to enforcement. These four regulations are creating urgent demand for a new class of maritime professional.

FuelEU Maritime

In force from 2025

All vessels above 5,000 GT calling EU ports must meet progressively stricter GHG intensity targets. From 2025: -2%. By 2050: -80%. Every shipping company needs people who understand alternative fuel operations.

Talent ImpactLNG officers, methanol engineers, and fuel transition coordinators now in critical demand across European fleets.

EU Emissions Trading System

Ships included since Jan 2024

Shipping companies now pay for their CO₂ emissions through the EU ETS. From 2024: 40% of emissions covered. By 2026: 100%. Companies urgently need carbon accounting specialists and ETS compliance officers.

Talent ImpactMRV (Monitoring, Reporting, Verification) specialists and ESG reporting officers are the fastest-growing maritime roles in Europe.

CII Ratings

Annual ratings from 2023

Every vessel now receives an annual Carbon Intensity Indicator rating (A–E). D or E ratings for two consecutive years trigger a corrective action plan. Fleet managers and vessel operators need CII expertise on every ship.

Talent ImpactCrew performance monitoring, voyage optimization, and CII compliance are now essential onboard skills — not optional extras.

IMO 2030 / 2050 Targets

Long-term pipeline

40% GHG reduction by 2030, net-zero by 2050. The decade-long transformation is creating a sustained pipeline of green maritime hiring — ammonia, hydrogen, and wind-assist are the next frontier.

Talent ImpactThe IMO targets mean this is not a short-term trend. Green maritime expertise will be a career advantage for 25+ years.
