We have strong processes and existing engineering managers, so you're not building from scratch. You're raising the bar.

The Role

We're growing, and that means adding engineering leadership capacity to support new initiatives. You'll lead cross-functional delivery teams of 4–5 engineers, reporting to our Head of Engineering. We're a small, senior analytics team supporting the entire company, product, marketing, operations, and finance all run on the data we serve. The foundation is solid: a centralized Redshift data warehouse where all source data lands, modeled in dbt and orchestrated by Airflow, with Segment feeding event data in. You won't be stitching scattered sources together, the platform exists; your job is to make it trustworthy and keep it that way. We're mid-migration to Lightdash as our single BI platform, replacing Tableau and Metabase.

Here's the honest gap: everyone on the team today is an analyst. Data quality, tracking standards, and platform hygiene get done as side work, squeezed between analyses. Nobody wakes up thinking about them, which is exactly the job we're hiring for.

Our mission: power every AI experience. For homeowners and for Pros (the lawn care providers on our marketplace), conversational AI can do far more than answer questions. It can skip a service, reschedule a visit, or book a new one mid-conversation, even when the customer's own AI agent is the one talking. And it doesn't have to live only in a chat window: we're bringing agentic experiences into the workflows homeowners and Pros already use, so the product does the work for them wherever they are. You'll decide what that looks like for both sides, then ship it.

About the Data Team

We're a high-leverage team of Product Data Analysts embedded across the business, owning the semantic layer and the metrics everyone trusts. The experimentation program runs on real rigor, not vibes: pre-registered analysis plans gate every test launch, anytime-valid statistics keep mid-run dashboards honest under continuous viewing, automated daily SRM and attribution health sweeps catch broken tests early, and seasonal power forecasting accounts for a business that swings hard by time of year. The test lifecycle, design through readout, is already AI-driven. Our analysts are stretched across product, so Growth support has stayed part-time and reactive, until now.

Every new customer meets us the same way. They land on our home page or marketing site, then move through a signup and booking flow where they get a quote, pick a service and a schedule, and pay. That flow runs across all three brands and brings in most of the company's new customers.

We built it many years ago. It's too long, and we lose customers at too many steps. So the real question isn't how to remove a step. It's whether the experience designed still makes sense at all, or whether it should be rethought entirely as an AI-native, agentic experience.

About Engineering Quality at LawnStarter

Our QA team is growing, and we're investing real money in better test coverage. We already have shared quality standards and a QA squad that organizes itself horizontally across teams. What we don't have is someone dedicated to owning that vision: every QA is heads-down on their own team, so nobody has the room to drive the standards forward, unify how the squad works, or push the state of the art. That's the gap this role fills. It's not a nice-to-have we're adding because things are going well. It's the structure and leadership we need to make what we've already built actually compound.

The Role

You'll be LawnStarter's first Principal Quality Engineer, reporting directly to the Head of Engineering. We already have quality standards, working CI/CD gates, and AI tooling in the mix. Nobody owns the vision behind all of it, drives it forward, or leads the QA squad that keeps it running. You will.
