Founding Engineer

Location: New York City, NY (100% On-site)

Compensation: $150,000 - $250,000 (Base Salary) + Significant Early-Stage Equity

We are an early-stage, YC-backed company building the future clean data layer for the internet, starting with financial firms. Our platform solves complex data cleaning, extraction, and validation problems by combining advanced AI (LLMs) with expert human review via a simple API. We're looking for a highly capable and driven Founding Engineer to join us and help build the core of our platform from the ground up. This role offers an opportunity for the right candidate to grow into a CTO-level position.

As a Founding Engineer, you will take ownership of critical systems that drive our product, working across the entire stack. You will directly influence our product strategy and technical direction, experiencing the full arc of building a successful startup.

What will you be doing?

As an AI Engineer you will help design, build, and deploy advanced artificial intelligence solutions. You will work closely with data scientists, software engineers, and product teams to develop machine learning models, integrate AI capabilities into products, and optimize systems for performance and scalability.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in machine learning and deep learning with hands-on experience in software engineering and data processing.

About the Role

Our client is an AI platform redefining how companies interact with the government by matching them to defense contract opportunities they are most likely to win. The company is backed by top defense investors, is profitable, has hit $1M ARR in under 8 months, and is growing at 60% MoM. This mission-driven role focuses on solving critical national security problems.

They are seeking a Full Stack Engineer to be a Founding Engineer for building the core data pipeline and user-facing application. You will own the process of transforming a "firehose" of daily government data into useful, browsable, and interpretable insights for defense companies.

We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist with a good blend of data analytics background, practical experience in optimizing replenishment strategies and allocating resources within supply chains, and strong coding capabilities to add to our team.

Our team is searching for a skilled Middle Python Developer to strengthen our backend and help evolve our product architecture. You’ll work closely with experienced engineers, bring fresh ideas to the table, and take ownership of key components.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Writing, maintaining, and optimizing high-quality code;
• Analyzing the existing solution architecture and taking an active role in designing a new one;
• Leading a small team of two backend developers.

What we’re looking for:

• 3-4 years of experience in backend development with Python 3.x (FastAPI or Flask);
• Strong skills in designing and building RESTful APIs;
• Solid understanding of OOP principles, data structures, and algorithms;
• Hands-on experience with asynchronous programming (asyncio, aiohttp) and API integrations;
• Strong knowledge of SQL and experience with ORMs (SQLAlchemy or Django ORM);
• Practical experience with caching tools (Redis, Memcached) and database migrations;
• Good understanding of Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and version control (Git);
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and web servers (Nginx, Gunicorn, Uvicorn);
• Knowledge of design patterns, SOLID principles, and system design;
• Strong communication skills.
